 3D Model Of The Cube
« Thread Started on Nov 2, 2008, 10:58pm »

Does anyone know if there are any 3D models of the cube out there on the net? Possibly done in a format like Google Sketchup.

I have looked into this and i cannot seem to find a 3D model of a single room, let alone the entire cube. All i have found on sketchup is a rather impressive model of a hypercube room and another even more impressive one of the word HYPERCUBE made out of those rooms.
The only thing i could suggest for a model of a room from the original would be to contact Eagle416. He has made some impressive screenshots of rooms through i can't remember which programme he used.

I was listening to the CUBE commentary and Vincenzo says that the statistician they worked with on the film managed to make a small scale, working cube with moving rooms. That would have been nice to see.

What about that one in the Cube Desktops thread?
The program with the room model made in Blender.

Do you happen to have the links to those?

I am Eagle416, mentioned by SliceandDice. I have created one room of an original CUBE in Blender. It's always a work in progress though. What format would you like me to prepare it as?

Yes, I seem to recall you said something about that before Jenny.
Could you post some screen shots please? Or have you done that already?

I've been trying to get into Blender more. It's been very difficult because I learn by doing tutorials and like 90% of the tutorials I find are using an older version of Blender and are laid out completely different and it'll sometimes take me a half hour to find a tool they said to click two menus to get. Then most of the tutorials I find that are using the newest version of Blender are really advanced and I can't follow it very well because you're supposed to already know how to use the program.

Hopefully I'll be able to keep an interest in it long enough though.

I was just following a tutorial earlier for using a background image as a reference. I came up with this:

It's extremely basic, I know. But before this I was shaping boxes and circles and sticking them together. I was trying to make a ship.... this is the pile of crap I came up with:

I was trying to make a ship similar to a ship I recently made in my game Spore.

....the one I made in the game looks nothing like this hahaha I was GOING to try to model it in Blender and then make it a million times better.

....fail.

haha

That would be awesome! Good luck!

My main problem is the tutorials. I'll get like ten steps into a tutorial then suddenly can't find a tool they're talking about.

I'd say I'm pretty good at Photoshop. I'm a graphic artist and I use Photoshop and CorelDraw on a daily basis. I learned how to use those by following tutorials. So I know it's not my ability to follow a tutorial. It just seems that Blender makes drastic layout changes between each version. It's very frustrating. The tutorial will seem easy enough.... I just don't have the patience to click every single icon I can find just to find one simple tool they mention.
